Historic Catskill Point Shad Festival Saturday May 17 11:00 to 5:00
Bring the whole family to the Catskill Point, located at the end of Main Street in
Catskill, NY for a fabulous day of river-side fun! A variety of Hudson River educational
displays, lecture on the ice industry by Catskill Village Historian Betty Larsen, free kayak demos, tours of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Birds of Prey exhibition, music, and- oops we almost forgot– SHAD! Demonstrations of traditional plank baking of shad and free tasting of pickled, smoked and baked shad courtesy of the Hudson River Foundation. Come and take part in this springtime celebration of Hudson River fish migration that has been a ritual for thousands of years. Try a taste of the delicious, but bony fish that the Native Americans called “porcupine fish turned inside out”. (Don’t worry all the bones have been removed from the fish you’ll taste!) Festival is provided free of charge, but a suggested donation of $3.00 per adult is deeply appreciated!
