Broadstreet Hollow Restoration Project

Landowners
Association

With the assistance of the Ulster County Soil & Water Conservation District and the NYCDEP Stream Management Program, residents of the Broadstreet Hollow watershed have formed a landowners association. The association will play an active role in representing the interests of the private landowners in the development of the Broadstreet Hollow Stream Management Plan, and will play a critical role in the implementation of the plan.  The association has had several meetings, and has already sponsored a number of activities related to the stream including a stream clean up.

National Public Radio Visits Demonstration Project

This spring (2002), WNYC, an affiliate of Northeast National Public Radio visited the Broadstreet Hollow demonstration project as part of a story on the NYC Filtration Waiver. During the visit, Beth Fertig [R] of WNYT interviewed both representatives of GCSWCD and NYCDEP as well as Jim Tierney of the state Attorney Generals Office and Christine Baltz [L] of the Landowners Association.  Beth was impressed with the projects success and the role that landowners would play and their support for better stream management.

Stream Clean-up Day

On Saturday May 25th, a number of landowners along the Broadstreet Hollow stream and friends joined together to clean up garbage and other debris from the stream. As a part of the Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) sponsored annual stream clean-up day, the association removed a great deal of trash, followed by some refreshments and socializing between neighbors. A fun time was had y all, and the Association is looking forward to next years event.
