Runoff Event & Impacts on Stream Projects

Farber Farm Project

Project Completed 8/30/00
Bioengineering 11/15/00

Sunday 12/17/00  - Stream stage below storm peak

Flow peaked at 2.5 ' to 3' above bankfull. At time of photo, debris line was noted approx 12" in elevation above current water surface. In photos above, the stage is crested at the elevation of the upper floodplain.

Panoramic Views of Farber Project under flood flows. Note flow through floodplain swale

View Looking Downstream from Bridge

View Looking Downstream at lower end of project

Erosion at top of rock vane, this was the worse situation observed during the flood.

Standing wave at location of Cross Vane at center of the project reach.

Monday December 18, 2000

Looking upstream, very  minor erosion at top of bank
behind rock vanes. No vegetation present at time of storm

Next to lowest meander. Worse damage occurred here, but was also limited to very top of slope.

Lower end of the project. Left pic is looking DS at the tie-in point with the old channel, while the Right pic is looking US at the Cross Vane that leads into the last riffle. Point bars functioned well, and deposition was consistent with the design bankfull elevation.  No erosion was noted on any structures in this section of the project.

View of Left Bank point bar at top of the project                                  View from bridge at the top of the project

Two views of lower project. Left pic is meander where the berm was removed, note minor erosion of the top of the bank but lower bank is intact and as constructed. Right pic is the point bar at the lowest portion of the project.

Left & Right--Two views looking downstream from bridge.. Right bank held very well even with minimal vegetation. Note that the flow is just below bankfull at the time of this photo.
