The 1st Annual Batavia Kill Stream Celebration was held on August 11, 2007. Visitors from the tri-state region flocked to the event held at Country Suite Bed and Breakfast in Ashland, NY. It was a full day of FREE family fun, entertainment, and education. Don’t miss this year’s Celebration!

Earthdivers with Turtle Island’s Tree of LifeArm of the Sea Theater
For over twenty years Arm of the Sea has been developing a style of magical realism that marries the mythic and the everyday, humanity and the earth, visual arts and natural science, poetry and politics. Celebrating the Batavia Kill stream as a local asset and regional water source for New York City will be portrayed in the City That Drinks the Mountain Sky, a colorful, moving and imaginative telling of the story of New York City’s water system. Educational and entertaining for people of all ages!
Betty and the Baby Boomers
Betty and the Baby Boomers offer folk music in many forms. Their wide ranging repertoire is knitted together by outstanding harmony singing and distinctive arrangements which, while musically creative, call attention to the meanings of the songs, not just the style of presentation. Traditional and contemporary, serious and silly, topical and whimsical. You will not want to miss this!

Learn about stream dynamics, how streams respond to flood events and what management practices are recommended for healthier streams and aquatic life.
Life by the Stream - Ongoing throughout the day
Interactive game for children of all ages! Prizes for everyone who participates.
Storytelling
Folk tales & native American themes relating to birds, frogs, and local and regional animals.
Plant identification
Learn about different plant species in a reconstructed wetland on site and how to identify native vegetation along stream reaches. The important role of riparian buffers to stream side stability will also be highlighted.
Agroforestry
Example forestry practices and importance of sustainable forestry to water quality and local economies.

Batavia Kill Rock Painting - Ongoing throughout the day
Featured artists from the Windham Art Alliance Art will be available for demonstrations and assisting children with Rock Artwork.
The Fabled Art of Fly Fishing
Join Columbia-Greene Chapter Trout Unlimited members and experience the art, skill and joy of fly casting and tying. Ongoing demonstrations along the Batavia Kill will be conducted by experienced fly fishermen.
